LearnDash is also known for its ability to function well within the vast majority of WordPress themes. Their support team recognized as top-notch as well. Integrations, payment gateways, user profiles, drip content plus more. MemberMouse is another fine choice for those looking to set up a membership website with WordPress.
One feature that makes it stand out: membership bundles. Membership levels are fairly standard in most of the plugins on this list. A bundle is a refreshingly different approach that allows for more possibilities.
This way, you could get really targeted with your offers. For example, you could sell a high-value bundle to your lowest level members. These bundles can even be given away for free. Another cool feature within MemberMouse : they allow you to create a membership to use for testing. This way you can experience membership just as a paying member would, making testing a breeze. Paid Memberships Pro is the first plugin on this list that could work for you totally free. Its free features are very generous.
The downside to this plugin is its steep learning curve. However, it also requires WooCommerce Subscriptions to accept recurring payments. Despite this fact, the WooCommerce Memberships add-on is super easy to use if you already work with WooCommerce. For example, if you already have an online store but want to extend your offerings to include memberships, this option would work really well. You could even sell your existing customers on access to content that they may find appealing.
This plugin features content dripping, member rewards, and many of the usual membership features. WP-Members is yet another great WordPress membership plugin. It works a little differently than others in one fundamental way. Instead of restricting some content on your site, it restricts everything by default.
Although you can reverse this setting, it might be annoying if you spent a ton of time unlocking your free content piece by piece. While that may leave beginners out in the cold, it will make this plugin desirable to the code masters in our midst. Still, it does have some nifty features out of the box, like custom landing pages and login forms for example. Variety is the spice of life!
With that in mind, here is another WordPress membership plugin for you to try. It's a fairly decent one too. Sometimes you need to try a few plugins until one feels right. This might be the one for you then - especially if the ones above haven't struck your fancy.
Paid Member Subscriptions is another plugin that offers a free and a premium version for you to choose from. The free version actually can get your membership site going at no cost to you. You'll be able to register users and accept one-time payments with PayPal. If you want advanced features, you'll need to go pro. This includes things like drip content, advanced payment options, and more payment gateways like Stripe for example.
Magic Members is yet another decent choice for those looking for a WordPress membership plugin. There are some pros and cons to be aware of before checking this one out though. As far as the pros are concerned, this plugin doesn't limit you.
You can make unlimited membership levels instead of the standard three, for example. And you can include trials and as many pricing combinations as you want to. One issue that many users have pointed out: the dated interface. If you can get over that, this could still work well for you! Even though it's not pretty, everything is handled from one dashboard, which is a plus.
Like other plugins on this list, you can restrict content by post or page. You can also release content drips based on membership level. It also allows you to set content to pay-per-post rather than putting it behind a membership paywall. Are you still looking for your dream WordPress membership plugin? Well here's another one to test out! It's no dud either. It can do everything you would need to create a fully functioning membership website with WordPress. I am looking for a plugin that lets me limit the amount of pages a user can read daily before he has to sign up and pay.
Please I need plugins that will allow me to sell pages to my members for blog. Meaning they can write articles that will show online. Thanks for the nice article. Which is the best free membership plugin for building a paid membership website with some nice profile page? Hi Tom, You can use Ultimate member and paid membership pro combo.
It is looks very professional and with a very secure and nice login page and registration page as well. I have it on website and it work in wonders. Ultimate member is a horrible plugin riddled with bugs along with very poor support. Oh, and it was the founder who provides support and gave me that answer.
So hard to customize, so full of problems, so not intuitive, so lacking in support. Stay away. Hello WPBeginner! Thanks for your article. Can you recommend any specific Plugin s that can achieve this for me? Thanks in advance. Is this possible. I need a member area where I upload client specific invoices, estimates, drawings, tracking numbers and other information for only that client. Is that possible with any of these. I want to upload them myself and not put from something platform.
For that you will need to find out which payment providers are available in your country, and then see if the membership plugin has an addon that supports any of those payment providers. I want customers to pay every month, lets say, 10 bucks. And, last, if this is possible, to link all that information to a CRM like Zoho or similar. Yes it is possible and you have basically described how you would do it. Good article! Any of listed plugin with this functions? Or maybe it would be possible by combining some of them.
Help please. Why are plugins for WordPress so overpriced?? How are bloggers and NPOs able to get decent functionality to run their site when plugins cost so much? Why is it overpriced?
If you would have to build the functionality yourself it wouid cost so much time. You want to have membership software so you can produce something once and sell it to members. That is what these plugin developers do as well…. Many thanks for the presentation of the Membership plugins! It should be a kind of photo community. The first level of membership should have one upload per week, the second should get 15 uploads per week, and so on.
Unfortunately, I have not found a plugin which offers quota limits, only those with space limits. I do not know if one of your featured Membership plugins will support this. This is very helpful. And in the case of a member subdirectory, can the site search index be partitioned to only apply to that subdirectory?
Thanks for your time! I want to give my client life time access but before they pay for membership they have a chance to take a three days trial. Which plugin is best for me?
Hopefully someone can help. I have a website where I give cashback for offers that my members fill out. I need a membership plugin to keep a track of my members. I use getresponse so I would like the plugin to integrate with them. Also so my members can login and check their balance.
That is really all I need from the plugin. Your blog date says January 2 , but the comments date back to As I write this reply, January 27, , the pricing for Paid Memberships Pro that you state does not seem to be accurate. I wish it were. I guess they went up since you wrote your blog ? They have a free version which might be the PMPro. I appreciate the comparisons — thank you for this information. Thanks for pointing this out. We have updated the article. I have a plan to make directory.
Hi, new to wordpress… I want to sell courses online. I want to sell packages that will contain a few video on a certain topic. If not, do you know what plugin I could use? Thank you Sylvie. S2member Pro also has Clickbank integrated as payment gateway. It seems not much membership plugins works with clickbank.
Which of these is the best option if it is critical that my members are able to make selections in multiple categories? Also, since I am looking for something very specific, I know I will need to add extra code to add some features.
Which of these is most flexible when it comes to adding features? Struggling to find the right member plugin. Am trying memberpress but it wont allow my members to sign in and membership pro is too complicated. Any suggestions. Am looking to be able to manage contact information in a not for profit that has members. Would want them to be able to login and update their own information. Also would want members to be able to login and be able to search access normally restricted information.
All the above listed plugins can be used to do that with a little bit of setup. You may also want to take a look at our step by step guide on how to create a membership website.
Thank you for such a comprehensive and informative review of the membership plugins. Your recommendations have definitely helped me make a decision. I am a newbie to wordpress. I am using bbPress for my site. I am manually adding the users after receiving the forms. I went ahead and installed the plugin. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Hi guys! Do you know of any plugins or add-ons that will add this functionality to MemberPress or any of the other membership plugins? Thanks in advance!
Can I override the plugin CSS? How do I add a calendar to my post or page? Yes, it works with usb QR-barcode wedge scanner.
Members can find their barcode in the membership tab when they are logged into their account. Does this plugin support Euro? Which payment gateway is the plugin compatible with? Will your apps work with this plugin?
How do I enable testing? Are you going to have more features in the near future? Can I offer refund to my members? Can I charge the members for other things? Save me a lot of time. Up and running for my client class booking. Full payment system with invoicing and payment reconciliation. Great Customr Response. Recommend it. You're supposed to need a Stripe account which doesn't work worldwide to even be able to test this thing.
Documentation isn't clear on the requirements. Waste of time. No support No contact email No company details So, besides that, it is hopeless. Once you install it all the viewable content that you should be able to control pops up on every single page.
Tried with multiple themes with no difference. It seems promoissing but turns out to be just one big disappointment. Receivned SPAM messages through several of my sites promoting this plugin. All un-solicted, and all automated pushing this for sites that are completely unrelated. Any plugin that uses those methods is not worth the time to try out. Great plugin and great support. They are fast to answer and very helpful. This plugin solved problems that I just couldn't solve any other way.
I am a volunteer for a non profit beach volleyball association in Sydney Australia. The team at Fitsoft have gone over and above in helping us to get it set up so it can work for our particular situation.
They have been incredibly generous with their non profit rates and also with their support and help.
