Davey explain all very good for me. I read a german HowTo and follow all the steps. After that there was a link to XDA and I follow this steps. What was wrong? I dont read more than this 2 posts and only the steps. After that I start my FireOS 4. What was the right way? Use adb to push all needed files to flash my HDX with a custom rom install Safestrap 4 and start it immediately after i install it.

So I could Install a recovery and start into safestrap Its not long ago, but my knowledge is much better now. And i am not afraid to Flash more HDX. Where do you see the drive listed and how are you trying to access it? I guess it's because of the password. I know that the hard-drive password is set and that you can't access the data without entering it.

I see the harddisk listed in the device manager as USB-mass storage device, no errors reported there , but it isn't listed in disk management or windows explorer. Because of that, I could not yet think of a way to access it. I believe the mass storage device is the caddie itself.

It's much like when you plug in a USB printer that has a card reader in it. You can see the mass storage device, but when there's no data card in it, there's nothing to read. There should be a drive letter assigned though. Can you hear the drive spinning? Are you sure the data connection is being made? Perhaps it needs drivers. Have you tried the "add hardware" option of control panel to see if it detects more hardware? Just saying Windows isn't good enough here we need the version of Windows if it's Windows and the Distro Name if it Linux and so on with the other available OS's.

What type of USB Caddy do you have here? We need this info to help you find a solution here. The Hard disk is from Hitachi Model No. I'm pretty sure that the harddisk isn't broken, because it has been working in my laptop without a problem and a can hear it spinning in the external enclosure.

Moreover, Windows does detect it as an mass storage device, I just can't access it. As already mentioned, I know that a harddisk password is set. When the harddisk was in my laptop, I always had to enter a password before Windows was starting up, wich leads me to believe that this password is the problem.
