The hard drive has been partitioned and reformatted with the FAT file sytem. I've copied the windows 98se boot disk files to the C: drive and the Duse usb boot files as well. When the laptop boots up with an external hard drive attached, it sees the hard drive but cannot load it.
I was trying to install Windows Pro from the external hard drive. Any help would be much appreciated to get this laptop going again. Thanks in advance. I tried to open the latop to get the hard drive out but kinda got stuck after taking out the screws. The external casing wouldn't come off that easily and I was apprehensive about breaking anything.

Joined Oct 19, Messages , You need to have the external hard disk formatted FAT32 to access it with W98, and you'll also need the drivers for the USB drive installed on the machine. If you have Windows 98 running on it, why not network it and copy the contents of the i directory from the Windows hard disk over.
You can install from a DOS boot using the setup in that folder. Unfortunately, there's no operating system installed on it.
And it has no network capabilities, it only has a 1 usb port, 1 firewire port and 1 pc card slot on the mini laptop. The hard drive has been formatted with FAT32 and all it has on it is the win98se boot disk files whcih was copied via an external floppy drive, including the duse files which enables usb support. I can then boot from the hard drive but despite seeing my external hard drive, which was formatted with FAT32, it couldn't load it.
So short of getting an external cd drive, I was hoping to find another way to install w2k pro on it, or least copy the I folder onto it. If you have an external floppy drive, you can boot to DOS and install DOS on that machine by using the command: SYS C: Then you can use a serial port transfer application to copy the i folder over to the drive.
Of course, you can also remove the drive and connect it to a desktop as previously suggested to copy the i folder over. Unfortunately, there's no serial port on the laptop.
